Creating a Map

Maps in OSMap act as canvases where you layer geospatial datasets, customize base tiles, configure viewports, and setup dashboards/widgets.

1. Create a Map Canvas

  1. Navigate to the Maps list page in the sidebar.
  2. Click the Create Map or New Map button.
  3. This opens the fullscreen Map Editor.

2. Configure General Settings

On the right side of the screen, you will find the floating Map Settings panel. Click on the General tab to configure:

  • Map Name: Give your map a title that describes its purpose (e.g., City Logistics Control Board).
  • Description: Add brief details about the map for other users.
  • Search Location: Use this search box to find cities, countries, or specific addresses. Selecting a search result will automatically fly/zoom the map view to that location.
  • Basemap: Select a base map style provider:
    • Default styles (e.g., standard OpenStreetMap, Mapbox Satellite).
    • Configured custom tiles or tile groups.
  • Private Map: Toggle this option to restrict map access to owner/administrator accounts only.

3. Position the Viewport (Center and Zoom)

Instead of manually typing coordinates:

  1. Pan and zoom directly on the map editor canvas until you achieve the desired viewpoint.
  2. The current coordinates (center longitude/latitude) and zoom level are captured dynamically and saved as the map's default startup view.

4. Save Your Map

After editing settings, click the Save (or Update) button located in the top-right action header bar.
